Loss of pressure in the boiler system

Your boiler should maintain pressure to keep heat circulating through the system. If you lose that pressure, you’ll lose the heating capability of your boiler, and you can lose water in the system, which will lead to further problems if your boiler continues to run. If there is a leak throughout your boiler system and you’ve lost pressure to your radiators, then you’ll need to have a technician over to perform repairs.

Leaks

Like the rest of the plumbing in your building, your boiler system shouldn’t spring a leak. If you’ve noticed that you have leaking pipes, radiators, or your boiler is leaking, then you’ll need to repair or replace these components. If you can’t locate the source of the leak, we’d be happy to take a look and perform a repair.

Poor Heat Through The Radiators or Baseboards

If you’re not getting consistent heat throughout the radiators or baseboards throughout your home or building, then you may have an issue with the boiler or the radiator units themselves. You may have a buildup in your radiator or along the line of your boiler plumbing. Or, as we mentioned, your boiler may no longer be operating efficiently. Regardless of the issue at hand, we can take a look to assess the source of the problem.

More Boiler Problems

Kettling

“Kettling” is a term that describes when hot water cannot escape your boiler. This happens when there is a blockage throughout the boiler and radiator system, which will keep the heated water from circulating as it should. This is a serious issue, since it can make your boiler dangerous, and the boiler may continue to run, since the thermostat will still indicate that your home or building is too cool. If you notice that your boiler is kettling (which will be indicated by a whistling noise from the boiler), then you should turn off your boiler at the thermostat, and contact a boiler technician to take a look.

Boiler Noises

Your boiler should be relatively quiet as it operates. While you will hear a whooshing sound while your boiler is on (thanks to the flame of your boiler), and you may hear small crackling and popping noises throughout your radiators as they heat up, there are other sounds that should be concerning. Be mindful that a whistling boiler is a sign of kettling — as we just mentioned. Also, be wary of bubbling, clunks, and other odd noises which may be a sign that a component is loose in your boiler, or you have a blockage somewhere throughout the system. You can describe the boiler noises that you’re hearing to us, and we’ll assess the issue at hand.

Thermostat Problems

Your thermostat is responsible for measuring the temperature of your home in order to turn on your boiler at a set temperature. If you have a thermostat that is uncalibrated, or simply not working altogether, then you may have poor heat in your home, or your boiler may not turn on at all. If you suspect that your thermostat is the source of an issue, we can take a look. We may be able to recalibrate your thermostat, we may recommend moving the unit, or we may have to replace the unit with a more current model.
