What You Must Know About HVAC Purchases

Most people live in areas where an HVAC system is necessary in their home to keep the temperature controlled. An HVAC is a unit that helps keep a house at a comfortable temperature. Becuase it’s a machine, it may require professional installation and maintenance. Keep reading and you’ll get the tips you need to know when working with HVAC.

If your HVAC system is acting up, take a tour of the house prior to calling a professional. Figure out which rooms are hot and cold. This information will help the contractor determine where the problem is and how to fix it.

Clean your outdoor condensers often. You never know when things can pile up, especially after a windy or rainy storm, and that can throw a wrench in your system. It can also cause it to overheat.

If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. You can find these ports covered with rubber or metal caps. Choose a SAE 20 oil whch is lightweight and non-detergent and place 10 drops or less into each port, ensuring it doesn’t overfill.

Make certain that an outdoor unit is in the shade. If the unit is taking in cooler air, the efficiency will be boosted since it will not need to work as hard.

Turn off any outdoor condensers you have when the weather gets cold. This means that you should turn it off to prevent damage if the weather falls under 60 degrees Farenheit. This will allow your system to work well every year, and that saves you quite a bit on making repairs.

Pane Windows

It is always a good idea to swap out single pane windows for double pane ones. Good double pane windows keep cool air in during the summer and minimize your utility expenses. Likewise, heat is better retained during the winter.

Having a programmable thermostat installed is a money saving idea. It may save you as much as 10 percent of your overall utility bill if you turn your thermostat down by 10-15 degrees for a portion of the day. In addition, some models make things really easy on you, allowing you to adjust them from the computer.

Service your HVAC unit at least one time a year. When it’s checked out, the motor will be inspected, moving parts well oiled and the level of freon adjusted if necessary. These things will boost the performance of your system.

Clearly, some ways exist to aid you in dealing with contractors and HVAC units. You need to be sure that the system is properly installed, maintained and working how it should. Put this advice to good use and HVAC installation or maintenance will no longer be an issue.
